Reggie Thomas is a musician, educator, and producer from Baltimore, Maryland. He began playing drums at the age of 4 and has been performing professionally for over 13 years. With 20+ years of experience on his primary instrument, Reggie has performed in front of hundreds of crowds internationally and specializes in a wide range of genres. In 2014, he moved to New York and received his Bachelor’s degree from New York University in 2018, majoring in Jazz Performance.

He also received his Master’s degree in Arts Management from The New School in 2020. Throughout his career, Reggie completed several programs at Berklee College of Music and is closely connected with the school community. While in New York, He began traveling and playing for a diverse group of artists. He has experience playing and producing Rock, Pop, Hip Hop, Folk, Jazz, R&B, Marching Bands, Gospel, Classical, Brazilian Samba, Malagasy, Kompa, Reggae, Dancehall music, and several other genres as well.

He has performed at many notable venues and festivals including the Blue Note, Jazz at Lincoln Center, Brooklyn Bowl, The Kennedy Center, Baltimore Centerstage, Lalapalooza, Vegan Soul Fest, Afro-punk, and Sounds Of Brazil. In addition to being an experienced drummer, Reggie also plays several other instruments, including Piano, Mallet Percussion, Bass, and Guitar.

Reggie is also an experienced music producer. He has over 10 years of experience using Ableton and Logic Pro, and is Pro-Tools certified. He has written and scored music for several independent films including, “Tales of Brooklyn,” by Zsaknore Powe and “Flowers,” by Harry Boadu. His work also includes music for podcasts, websites, video games, and artists, spanning a broad range of genres.

Having a diverse musical background has helped Reggie to meet the needs of many different students. He has been teaching private lessons for 13 years and is currently a 4th-year music teacher for Baltimore City Public Schools. His career in education has given him the opportunity to teach students of all ages with varying levels of proficiency. As a classroom teacher, Reggie has taught as many as 600 students weekly and has done so both virtually and in person.

He is familiar with the history and pedagogy of the drum set and is experienced with differentiating instruction to accommodate a plethora of learning styles and special needs. While it is important for students to learn the history of their instrument, Reggie believes that it is also important that music students are kept up-to-date, and are equipped with the skills to navigate today’s music industry.
